Short-Term GICs
For investors with shorter maturity requirements. Terms such as 30–90 days, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year may be offered by some issuers. Only maturities verified with a specific issuer are displayed in the rate table.
Fixed Income · Capital Preservation
Explore fixed-term deposit opportunities designed for investors who value clarity — known terms, defined interest rates and a predetermined maturity.

Know the maturity date before committing capital.
Defined Rates
Understand the applicable interest rate before investing.

Deposit Protection
Understand when and how eligible deposits may qualify for applicable deposit insurance.
Approach
Not every part of a portfolio needs to pursue maximum upside. Fixed-term deposits can provide a different function: preserving capital, generating defined interest and creating known maturity dates around future liquidity requirements.
Maryana Capital's approach is to consider fixed-term deposits within the context of the investor's broader portfolio, objectives, liquidity requirements and time horizon.
GICs and term deposits sit conceptually between income and capital preservation. Educational illustration, not personalised advice.
Definitions
A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) is a Canadian term-deposit product issued by an eligible financial institution. An investor commits funds for an agreed period and receives interest according to the terms of the particular GIC.
Maryana Capital Inc. is not automatically the issuer of a GIC simply because the product is discussed or arranged through Maryana. The issuing financial institution must always be identified.

Product types
01
For investors with shorter maturity requirements. Terms such as 30–90 days, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year may be offered by some issuers. Only maturities verified with a specific issuer are displayed in the rate table.
02
For investors willing to commit capital for longer periods — commonly 2 to 5 years — in exchange for the applicable fixed-term rate. Availability depends on the issuer.
03
Certain products may permit early access, subject to the issuer's specific conditions and potentially a different rate. Not every GIC is redeemable.
04
These generally require funds to remain invested until maturity, subject to the issuer's terms. Plan liquidity needs before committing.
05
Some GICs may be eligible for registered accounts such as a TFSA, RRSP, RRIF or FHSA — only where supported by the relevant institution and account structure.
06
Where available, these are denominated in a currency other than CAD and carry currency risk: the CAD value of principal and interest can rise or fall with exchange rates. Currency is always shown separately.

Deposit protection
Eligible deposits held at a CDIC member institution can receive CDIC protection subject to applicable coverage categories, limits and eligibility requirements.
Coverage is generally determined per insured category and per member institution. Clients should verify their individual circumstances directly with CDIC and the issuing institution.
Learn About CDIC ProtectionEligible deposit products can include
Deposit protection applies to eligible deposits at participating institutions. It does not mean every financial product offered through an investment firm is CDIC insured. Maryana Capital Inc. does not provide deposit insurance.
Through an adviser
GICs may be purchased through a broker or investment adviser, depending on the firm's arrangements and the issuing institution. Working through one relationship can make it simpler to compare terms and coordinate maturities.
The issuing institution remains central to understanding the product terms, maturity, interest, deposit protection and your concentration across issuers. Specific issuer relationships are identified only once verified, and are confirmed to you in writing before any commitment.
United States
The U.S. counterpart to the Canadian term-deposit conversation.
Certificates of Deposit (CDs) are fixed-term deposit products commonly offered by U.S. banks. Although structurally similar in concept to Canadian GICs, CDs operate within a different banking, regulatory, currency and deposit-insurance framework.
Availability of U.S. CDs to Canadian investors depends on the issuing institution, account structure, intermediary and applicable eligibility requirements. U.S. CDs are discussed here for education; availability through Maryana has not been confirmed.
Purpose
A defined maturity value can help support capital-preservation objectives, subject to issuer and product terms.
Fixed-rate products can provide greater visibility into expected interest.
Fixed-term deposits may complement market-linked assets within a broader allocation.
Staggered maturities can help align portions of a portfolio with future liquidity requirements.
Fixed-term deposits are not appropriate for every investor. Inflation, reinvestment risk, liquidity restrictions and issuer terms all matter.
Comparison
| Feature | GIC | Government / Corporate Bond | Cash |
|---|---|---|---|
| Principal | Subject to product/issuer terms and applicable protection | Subject to market and issuer (credit) risk | Generally stable nominal value; purchasing power can erode with inflation |
| Interest | Defined according to the product | Coupon / yield; price depends on market | Variable |
| Maturity | Defined | Defined | None |
| Liquidity | Product dependent; may be locked until maturity | Market dependent; sale price may differ from par | High |
| Market-price fluctuation | Generally not relevant when held to maturity under product terms | Yes | Minimal |
| Deposit insurance | Potentially eligible where issuer and deposit qualify | Generally no CDIC deposit protection | Potentially eligible depending on account and institution |
General educational comparison. No category is universally "safe"; outcomes depend on the specific product, issuer, terms and the investor's circumstances.
Philosophy
A portfolio does not have to choose between defence and opportunity. Fixed-term deposits can address liquidity and capital-preservation objectives while other allocations pursue longer-term growth or market opportunities.

Questions
No. A GIC is issued by an eligible financial institution. Maryana Capital Inc. is not a bank, does not accept deposits and is not automatically the issuer of a GIC simply because the product is discussed or arranged through Maryana. The issuing institution must always be identified.
Eligible deposits, including eligible GICs, held at a CDIC member institution can receive CDIC protection subject to coverage categories, limits and eligibility requirements. Not every product is eligible, and Maryana itself does not provide deposit insurance. Verify your circumstances with CDIC and the issuer.
It depends on the product. Cashable or redeemable GICs may permit early access under the issuer's conditions, often at a different rate. Non-redeemable GICs generally require funds to remain invested until maturity.
A GIC ladder divides capital across different maturity dates rather than committing the entire allocation to a single term, so portions of the portfolio mature at intervals.
